Podcast Activity

Here is the Lesson Plan that I created to go along with the Podcast that I created. (The podcast is located in the previous post.)

ISTE Standards:
1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
2: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
3: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning

Podcast

Here is the podcast that I created.

This podcast is about the appropriate way to handle calls in the Business world. The students will listen to my podcast and learn the techniques needed. The students will then be divided into groups of two. Each group will write a script. The students will perform the script with the podcast recording them. The last thing the students will do is evaluate their performance by listening to the podcast that was created.

Here is the script that I read into my podcast.

Standard 1: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

My experience with this project was not the easiest assignment I have ever done. I enjoyed making the script and the podcast; however I had much trouble uploading the podcast. I had created the podcast in garage band and converted the file to an MP3. I then had to create an account on PodBean and insert it into a new blog on that site. Once the podcast was on that blog I spent a great deal of time, until I was able to find a link which opened the podcast in its own web browser. From here I was able to obtain a URL so that I could link this blog directly to my podcast. Finally it is done! It was a learning experience and next time it will be much faster.

Online Graphic - Crappy Graphic

Today we created a graphic using a really cool website called Crappy Graphics check out my graphic at Awesome Graphic Link or you can view it as a document by clicking here.

This graphic shows how Business and Technology have began to over lap and e-commerce has developed as a result. This would be a good visual aid when discussing this topic!

Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

Online Graphic - IEP Percentages

Today in class we created another graph using Kids Zone. This graph is based on IEP percentages for selected low income states. The information used in this graph was obtained from the NAEP site. By clicking on a state you can obtain a great deal of information about the site, this can be very useful in finding out information about your state and for comparing your state to other states.

You can see the graph I created at: Percentage IEP for selected income states Graph

Online Graphics - Kids Zone

I created a graph in class today; this graph shows how West Virginia compares to the Nation on Math scores through the NAEP.

To view Kids' Zone click here.

To view my graph click here.

The ISTE standards that would apply to this activity are as follows:

*Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
*Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
*Model Digital-Age Work and Learning

This is a very creative site and it could be used widely in the classroom. There are many different subject areas that you could use this technology to improve the students learning and understanding, as well this would be a great way to help students understand the correct way to interpret graphs.

Desktop Graphic

Teaching The Important Characteristics of Microsoft Excel.

INTASC STANDARDS:
Principle 1:
Making content meaningful
The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.

Principle 3:
Learning styles/diversity
The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

Principle 7:
Planning for instruction
The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

EXPLANATION OF USE:
Above I have included a graphic that I can use in a classroom setting. This is a graphic that explains the different buttons and characteristics of Microsoft Excel. I could use this in the classroom to introduce the students to the important features of Microsoft Excel. This would allow me to show my students visually while I verbally speak to them, that way I can reach more students learning techniques while teaching. I could later blank out the text and turn this graphic into a quiz for the students.

When creating my blog I considered using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Paint. I decided to create my graphic using a copied picture and inserting it into Microsoft Publisher. I then inserted my arrows and text boxes. Once completing that I grouped all the images together to create one image, I then copied this image and pasted it into Paint. Once in paint I saved the image as bitmap image. I then used that way of saving the image to upload it into my blog. When using Microsoft Publisher I could not save my graphic as an image that is why I had to copy and paste it into paint, so that it would save as a bitmap image instead of a file.

CHARACTERISTICS OF FILE:
My graphic is 1.81 MB in size.
When clicking the file it will open in Paint.

The Internet is only 5000 days old!!

We had class on 2/10/09. We learned the history of the internet and how it is only 5000 days old. It has really done alot in its short life span. We have also talked about how the Internet is taken for grantite when it is "truly amazing".

We also worked on setting up our FTP site and got that in working condition. We ended the class talking about the survey that we are going to take on Thursday.

I forgot to post this blog on Tuesday, so I posted it today instead.

Cone of Experience

Since we were unable to have class on February 5, 2009, we were to read an article and answer a few questions. The article was about Cone of Experience or the Cone of Learning (Dale Edgar). I have wrote a short narrative describing my findings. Check it out at Cone of Learning-Sarah Chenoweth

Telling A Story Through Pictures

In class we downloaded a program called photo story. This program allows you to insert pictures and turn them into a small movie clip. We are to create a series of pictures that will tell a story about who we are. It is actually quite interesting and fun!! I like this project so far; but I guess that would make since, considering my major deals with multi-media.

During Class I asked a great deal of questions and I discovered that I could use my Mac computer to create a movie clip too. Mr. Pierce told us we could use the program called iMovie; however while browsing my computer I also discovered a program called iPhoto which is even more similar to Photo Story. In iPhoto you actually import pictures to create a slide show which is very much like the little movie clip. I believe that you can then insert that slide show into iMovie to actually create your mini movie. I have a lot of experimenting to do, and I have a little time this weekend to work on it.

Once again, I forgot to enter this post on the correct day. I tend to be very forgetful at times and while I was able to check my computer for all the similarities to Photo Story, I could not remember to enter this post on the correct day. So I remembered today and I figured better late then never.

There should be a way you can view my photo story through my blog coming soon!!

Second Class

Hi! Today was the second class. We worked on updating a shared file, which was our class spreadsheet. We also added more links to our blog. Mr. Pierce showed us how to use the FTP to save our documents. We also completed a survey. I am excited for next week because we get to tell a story through our pictures!

First Day Of Instructional Tech

Hi! Today was the first day of my Instructional Technology class. We covered how to create a blog. I completed alot including: creating a blog, creating a g-mail account, e-mailing Mr. Pierce. I am currently in my second day of class and I am just now writing this blog since i didnt write one on the first day, I got a little confused about the posting.
